If you need a power screwdriver, get this – you can thank me later.
I originally purchased this rechargeable screwdriver for my instrument repair technician intern, but it works so well that I decided to keep it for myself. I bought a peg winder for it and now string changes are a breeze! I use it all around the house, and even in the garage on occasion. It’s a Skil unit, so I am comfortable with the quality and I know that as long as I take care of it, it will continue to work for me for years to come. It charges up quickly, and the batteries last through just about any task you attempt. Very easy to use and super easy to change bits. If you need a power screwdriver, get this – you can thank me later.

Possibly the BEST Tool I’ve Ever Purchased
I purchased this back in April, 2023 so I’ve had about 15 months of casual home and auto use with it. I’ve used this tool for numerous home, hobby and automotive projects in that time and I’ve been thinking that this is arguably the single best tool investment I’ve ever made dollar-for-dollar.It’s great for low torque applications where the use of small 1/4 drive bits is necessary. The live circuit sensor is a nice addition when replacing power outlets. It has two small LED lights that are bright enough to see what your doing, but I wouldn’t double it as a flashlight. I also love the fact that the battery is captive and doesn’t require a separate purchase. The USB charging is convenient and I prefer this method of recharging a small power tool, rather than having to invest in a dedicated battery and charger. If you have Milwaukee power tools, or other red-themed power tools, the color is a very close match (slightly darker compared to my Milwaukee impact wrenches). This is possibly the best tool that anyone who uses screwdrivers a lot can buy, dollar-for-dollar. There are numerous 1/4″ bits, bit holders and bit extensions you can buy to extend this electric screwdriver’s uses. I’d recommend this to any homeowner. Some projects I’ve used this for and continue to use to this day:1. Light home renovations (outlets, outlet covers, door hinges, door handles, door strike plates)2. Automotive (screws for panels, splash guards, trims)3. Firearm assembly4. Fixing various items featuring screws with low installation torque.PROS:1. Compact design2. SIGNIFICANTLY reduces time required to remove/install screws3. Very competitive price4. Long battery life5. Magnetic bit holder securely holds bitsCONS:1. Speed is not adjustable2. LED lights should be slightly brighter

Amazing for electrical work
I bought this purely out of curiosity as my first (and thus far only) small handheld electric screwdriver. It always feels like a bit of a hassle to use it because of the need to keep bits separately and look for and insert the correct bit.If this screwdriver could be revised to store a few bits like MegaPro AmazonBasics or LTT, it would be much better. So I generally reach for a fixed screwdriver when I need one for PC/laptop work and most other things. However, it’s an absolute godsend when doing electrical work. Especially when up on a ladder, when often I only have 1 hand to work on things. It’s incredible. So far the electricity indicator hasn’t been needed but I can see how it would be helpful.Torque…I’ve used it to install screws into drywall, it can do that easily enough. And re-install screws into wood. Or put screws in with pilot holes, it’s okay. Obviously it comes with a pilot hole bit so it’s intended for that. It’s fine for that purpose. However there are misleading reviews saying that the shaft locks when you power it down. It depends on what you mean by lock. It locks enough to thread a bolt/screw/nut. Sure, no problem. But if you want to put a screw into wood and need max torque, you need the power on and to give it a little bit of a twist. There’s a lot less torque available when the power is off. (if you turn it manually with “too much” torque, it will just spin the mechanism and your screw won’t turn.So it doesn’t actually LOCK at all. It’s just that there’s a lot of inertia within the gearing when it’s powered off, such that you can manually screw/thread or whatever light duty stuff. Like getting machine screws/bolts/nuts threaded into metal etc. It’s a bit slow. Even doing electrical work. I’m often wishing it were faster. The locking collet is amazing. It doesn’t hold on always, but will hold on 98% of the time. If you shove a screw driver bit into a tight terminal block, then try pull it out, the bit will be left behind inside the terminal block. But if you give it a wiggle and pry it slightly while pulling, the bit will stay inside the Skil. For all normal use, the bit will definitely stay inside the collet.Compared to the Bosch. I’ve used the Bosch briefly, only to drill pilot holes. And I was thoroughly unimpressed with the bosch. It doesn’t hold on to bits AT ALL. so the drill bit stays inside the wood. Really lame. I also strongly dislike all that forward/backwards “play” in the Bosch’s hex shaft/mechanism. They think they’re being clever with that whole “push forward to turn on” gimmick. It’s stupid. The “play” is terrible. Give me a solid mechanism for crying out loud. Some people complained about the microUSB saying it should have been Type-C. Well unless you’re an assembly line worker, it really doesn’t matter. This screwdriver battery lasts forever and hardly ever needs to be charged. So that’s a really lame complaint. Yes Skil should have not been so cheap and should have spent an extra 10c on a type C connector instead of microUSB. But I wouldn’t ever dock a star for that.I’m docking a star because:* No bit storage* Slow* Would prefer more torqueTorque – RPM – Mechanism – RetentionSkil 8.5inLbs 1Nm – 230rpm – Twist ring (good) – Excellent retentionWorx 44inLbs 5Nm – 300rpm – Button (good) – Unknown retentionBosch 44inLbs 5Nm – 360rpm – Push (really lame and fiddly) – Zero retentionSo it’s not perfect, but was the best available choice for me.I’m still happy with my purchase but there’s a lot of room for improvement.I don’t care if they make it biggerI wantIn order of preference1 Bit storage2 More speed3 More torqueAnything else is frills/gimmick/nonsense IMO.When I say I want more torque, it’s really not a big deal. This is meant for delicate/light duty stuff, like electrical work and computers and so on. That’s what I actually bought it for, and it’s PLENTY MORE than powerful enough to handle all of that. It’s just that because it starts becoming so useful, you’ve done your electrical terminals and now you want to put some screws in wood, and it’s just not quite powerful enough for some things, like long screws or no pilot holes or whatever. It just seems like for all this size/weight and trouble of having/making an electric screwdriver, they could have just added in a gearbox to give us more speed and more torque. For the torque I’m quite tempted to try another brand, maybe Worx. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t love this tool. I’m happy with it and if I didn’t own one, I’d buy one again.

Has pretty impressive torque for the size, and the battery lasts long enough for most small jobs(and is easily charged with any usb cable) – Feel this was most defiantly worth the purchase price. (45cnd)The LED light is bright, and the current detector is very useful (Helps to check if you forgot to throw a breaker before working) – really 5/5 stars except for the collar trigger thing, find it somewhat awkward to reach/turn with thumb while also holding driver(is fine if you can use both hands but for the type of job I want this for, reaching into small spaces, would have preferred a thumb type trigger to maintain proper grip)Regardless of that one mark against this, I love its shape, feel, size, and weight. Especially like the impressive power it has for the size.
