    Excellent product
Unfortunately I had to use mine for a electrical dryer fire. I was very glad I had it. It put the fire out inside the dryer with eas and without mess. I purchased another. I will always keep one on hand.

Most reviewers don’t seem to understand what this product really is.
Honestly, I don’t blame you. I knocked 1 star because Kidde could have communicated better. This fire spray is rated for UL 711A. It is one of only two fire sprays in the market to have this rating (the other is the First Alert EZ Fire Spray) (there is also a fire extinguisher from Kidde that meets UL 711A).So WTF is UL 711A you ask? This is a standard for *residential* *cooking* *oil* *fires*. If you are using it on a campfire you’ve missed the point. Kidde’s marketing doesn’t help because they mention paper and wood, but they also say it’s for household fires and a campfire is not a household fire.UL 711A is different from other extinguishers you may be familiar with:Class A — Wood fires. What’s challenging about wood is that it retains a lot of heat, so it can easily reignite. Water is effective against Class A fires if used in quantity (gallons). This little can will only put out a little wood fire.Class B — Usually shortened as “flammable liquids and gases”, so you’d think it’d work for oil. But the test substance is heptane, which basically mimics gasoline and kerosene. Cooking oil is not gasoline. It is more viscous and retains more heat, and it splashes more easily, leaving big blobs of oil that re-ignite.Class C — Electrical.Class D — Metals, like magnesium.Class K — Commercial kitchen. This is the class that is most similar to UL 711A. At least it’s testing cooking oil. But it’s 80 lbs of shortening inside a deep fryer. To pass the test, the extinguisher has to avoid splashing and re-ignition.The UL 711A standard is basically a modification of the Class K, adapted for the home kitchen. It replaces shortening with vegetable oil and peanut oil, and I imagine the volume of oil is closer to that of a frying pan. The rest is similar: no splashing, no re-ignition.The Kidde Flame Out fire spray is mainly potassium acetate. This the exactly what you find in a Class K extinguisher. When it encounters burning oil, it reacts with the oil and turns it into soap and vinegar. The soap itself removes some of the fuel. The reaction also absorbs some heat, and creates a foam to help keep oxygen away from the hot oil.As you can see from the description, this chemical reaction is very effective against cooking oil fires, but it’s not going to do nearly as much for a wood fire. I mean… it’ll still dissipate heat, but it’s like splashing a small amount of water onto the wood. This product is excellent for what it is engineered to do, and it is a very important task because most household fires start as cooking oil fires. But few people actually understand what it is engineered to do.

    Good small extinguisher
I have not tested it but I relied on other reviews that said it works. The price and design is OK for this size. I may never use it if I am lucky.
