ABC or Multi-Purpose extinguishers utilize a specially fluidized and siliconized mono ammonium phosphate dry chemical. It chemically insulates Class A fires by melting at approximately 350°F and coats surface to which it is applied. It smothers and breaks the chain reaction of Class B fires and will not conduct electricity back to the operator. For Use on Class A (ordinary combustibles), Class B (flammable liquid) spills, and Class C (fires involving live electrical equipment).

Reliable and High Quality
The Amerex B500 fire extinguishers are excellent quality and give me peace of mind. The 5 lb size is a great balance—large enough to handle emergencies but still manageable to use. I like that they’re ABC rated, so they work for multiple types of fires, and the 12–18 ft range with a 14-second discharge time is very reassuring. The 2-pack is perfect for covering different areas of my home. Sturdy, reliable, and a must-have for safety.

Thanks America for a solid product.
Saved my 1967 Galaxie from burning to the ground. I did have to use a whole one.China alternator caught on fire and burnt my fuel hoses, spraying fuel everywhere. Fire loves fuel. The whole engine bay got charred. Car didn’t like it. No more china parts. Spend extra.Thank you USA. Never buy china junk when your life (or your 67 Ford) depends on it. So I bought 2 more. Awesome. God bless American companies.

Peace of Mind in a Canister!
I hope I never have to find out how good these are! What I actually purchased was “peace of mind.” And THAT is worth every penny…right now! My biggest concern was that my tiny wife would be able to lift and use the fire extinguisher if necessary. She can handles these just fine, yet each one is large enough to put a dent in a well-developed flame.

A necessity for any home
These 5-pound extinguishers should be able to handle any kind of household fire. They’re light enough to be handled by older children, but large enough to provide some good spray time. The two-pack I purchased is perfect for my own home. I hung one up in the garage next to the interior garage door (so it can be easily used in either the garage or the house interior) and one in the basement next to one of our utility rooms. They didn’t come with screws for the sturdy hangers, but drywall screws worked well for me. The only downside, which is why I gave it only four stars, is that one of them came with the plastic retaining strap for the safety pin severed, with the pin pulled out, which could have led to an accidental discharge while shipping. I didn’t notice any residue, so it was OK. Also, the metal pins are far too loose in their holes, making the pins fall out too easily when handling and installing the extinguishers. A little more resistance would be good. Believe me, if there is an emergency for which you need to use a fire extinguisher, your adrenaline will easily overcome any slight resistance to pulling the safety pins. Overall, though, I’m definitely glad I have some good quality, good sized fire extinguishers in the home. I paired them up with two kitchen aerosol-style extinguishers (which use baking soda as the extinguishing agent), both of which easily fit in kitchen cupboards. Furthermore, I also purchased a pack of SmartSign Fire Extinguisher 2.75″ x 2.75″ reflective stickers and placed one on the kitchen wall next to the interior garage door, where one of the big extinguishers is located, and on the wall next to the door of the utility room where the other extinguisher is mounted. If there is a BIG problem in the home, and panic is starting to set in, being able to tell where the extinguishers are located (especially for those unfamiliar with the home) is crucial. I’m a former Navy submarine officer and I know how one’s thinking can start to shut down in an emergency and we rely on clear, obvious indicators and training to get through an emergency. Not only do we need to have the equipment in the first place, such as these extinguishers, but we need to know where it is and how to use it. Stay safe!

Arrived quickly fully charged and ready to go. I like that there’s a short hose attached for aiming the retardant and the pin is secured well it won’t fall out accidentally. Only issue I can see is the bottom handle by the level be nice if it was fixed to the extinguisher instead of having a bit of movement up and down. Seems like a quality extinguisher labeled in accordance with regulations and says it’s class A B and C seems like an ideal purchase to me.
